What We Do

Since 2007, we have worked to permanently protect and restore over 200 acres of native Minnesota oak savanna.

Our Mission

..to work with all interested individuals, organizations, and agencies to preserve and protect the Anoka Nature Preserve— the oak savanna, the meadows and open land, and the riverbank area along the Rum— for now and for future generations.

What has happened.. and will happen:

  • 2007, reached consensus on preserving the nature area under a conservation easement

  • established a management plan that specifies the types of activities that are permitted and encouraged in the ANP

  • completed stages of an invasive species reduction (buckthorn, prickly ash)

  • continued the Waterfowl for Warriors program, providing special hunting experiences

  • established the trailhead area, providing parking and access to the ANP trail system

  • began and maintained a trail grooming system, especially for winter ‘people-powered’ activities

  • prairie restoration has begun in the north section of the open area

  • 2025, ACD will plant and support 100 trees, mostly along the main trails
